A few years ago, a big thing was a "100 things about me" list that everyone put on their blog.  I had one on a geocities page that has vanished for some reason.  That list took about an hour to put together.

Now, thanks to Facebook, the big thing is "25 random things about me".  My list took forever, I don't know why!

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength, and I stand and watch until at last she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come down to mingle with each other.

Then someone at my side says, 'There she goes!'

Gone where?

Gone from my sight ... that is all.

She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and just as able to bear her load of living freight to the place of destination. Her diminished size is in me, not in her.

And just at the moment when someone at my side says, 'There she goes!' there are other eyes watching her coming and their voices ready to take up the glad shouts 'Here she comes!’

No. 1 Columbus, Ohio

Home to the Ohio State Buckeyes, Midwestern Columbus has a low cost of living and affordable housing--seniors seem to get along just fine. More than a fifth of folks over 65 are employed, and that age group only constitutes 6% of persons living under the poverty level, which indicates that independent living is en vogue in this river city.

A significant number of Americans will soon retire, but many won't be looking so much for a place to settle down as to live it up.

Update on Grandpa B

From Grandma B:

He goes to the cardiac cath lab at the hospital -- probably the same room in which they cleaned out his cardiac artery.  I'm quite familiar with the waiting room there - they have lousy coffee.  They semi-sedate him and make him glow in the dark, then they take all sorts of pictures of his artery.  If the blockage is localized (as it was in his cardiac artery) they will try angioplasty -- clearing it out by going in through the femoral artery at the top and blowing up a balloon in the artery to press the blockage out of the way.  If this doesn't work, then they might try putting in a stent - which is what ended up happening in the cardiac artery.  Worst case scenario - they either find out that the blockage is too severe to fix immediately, or the balloon or stent don't work, and schedule him for arterial bypass surgery.

So now you know what I know --- I'll give everyone an update on Thursday.

Week Four/Twenty Four Cardio Day

• 20 minutes on the treadmill (10 walking on incline, 10 running on no incline). The last couple minutes I was going at 7 mph which was a mistake because we did a
• Triathlon: .5 mile on treadmill/300 steps on elliptical/2 miles on bike. I finished first but couldn't celebrate because it was time for
• Walk/Jog/Sprint for close to 15 minutes and I think only two or three of the intervals were walking and I was hoping we were done but no it was time to do
• 20 pushups and 25 crunches and finally!
• Stretching

After all that cardio I was considering skipping the park anyway; ended up gabbing in the parking lot for 45 minutes and came straight home.

To-do Today:

• Z to soccer camp
• E2 to summer program
• Take E1 to see Kit Kittredge movie?  Nah, no superfluous driving today
• E1 to gymnastics
• Start getting E1's stuff organized for next week's camp
• laundry
• bathrooms
• Sign E2 up for ballet

Happy Memorial Day

Looks like it's going to be a wet one here.  Fortunately, the only thing on our agenda is boxtops, boxtops and boxtops....

No work out today, either because of the holiday or Coach S may be at a tournament.  I did get up and jog.  Three laps!  Clocked in at 8:32, 17:43 and 26:47!  I was just going to jog one lap and then walk one. I kept telling myself "just a little farther" and I made it!

The boys (and two of Z's teammates) had a lot of fun at the Crew Soccer Festival yesterday.

E1 is doing okay.  The coach thinks that, while she was working on her kips, she either had a muscle spasm or bruised a rib. 

No one is awake yet so I don't know how they liked the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Go out and savor the fresh air!
