So Proud!

All three kids ran a "fun" run (not sure how fun it was - at 8:30 it was already warm and muggy) this morning, and then the two big kids ran a 5k!

Fricka-Fricka Four Miles in 42:something

• My watch (turned on as I was passing under the starting arch and looked at shortly after passing back under that arch to finish) said 42:00, I thought the race clock said 42:08 as I ran past it, and B took a picture of a clock that said 42:27.  No timing chip so I'll never know for sure, but regardless I am very happy that I went four miles, in the heat, without quitting or walking any of it.
• B got stung by a bee before the race.  That's what happens when you wear mandals.
• People, if you KNOW you're going to walk the race, go to the BACK when the runners start lining up. 
• Girls, if you buy a running skirt, do a trial run in it so that when you are running in public, you don't have to hitch it up every 30 seconds before taking one of the safety pins attaching your running bib out to pin your waistband.

I have no idea why but, a local running organization takes photos at some events:

At the time, I thought he was a friend of the women in front of me. 

This & That

I signed up for a 4 miler at the end of July.  Eeek!  I think V is going to do it too.

I wanted to have a little party for Z at home but the days have passed and long story short, he opened up his cards and presents tonight.   Thank you all so much!

Happy 4th! We did it!!

• Official times aren't up yet, but unofficially, Z finished at around 30:17 (I'm so proud of him!  He's very fit from soccer but he's never run three straight miles before!)  and I came in at around 31:27. 
• How do people run without an iPod?!?
• I forgot to start my watch so I was irritated about that.  Then I realized that, since I didn't really know the course, I couldn't have paced myself anyway.
• It was a lot of fun (although the last 1/2 mile was a struggle!) and I recovered faster than the 10 year old :P
• Now I have a time to beat at that next 5k I do.  There's for sure one in September, but I'm hoping to find another one before then!
• B & the girls came to take pics, cheer us on, and bring us Gatorade! And B had fun counting the people who puked! (Five.)

Later today: watching E1 and her teammates in the parade, and going to see fireworks.  Hopefully it won't storm today!   Wishing you a very Happy Fourth!

Results are now on-line: 

Z's official time was 29:51 (pace 9:37).  He finished 225th* overall, and 15th out of 18 in the Males, 14 & under category. 

My official time was 31:08 (pace 10:02). I finished 249th overall, and 15th out of 33 in the Females, 35-39 category. 

*Looks like 360 people wore timing chips. 

Eeeeek!

Z & I just registered for a 5k run on the 4th!  Gulp!

The race age categories start with the 11-14 group; it (on-line system) let me register Z so I hope we don't have a problem Friday morning.
